Reality check

Old is not the same as rare.

Many old stamps were printed and saved in enormous quantities. A scarce catalog variety can share its portrait and color with a common stamp. Exact identity and condition do the work.

Watch for: regumming, reperforation, filled thins, cleaned or added cancels, forged overprints, altered colors, repaired tears, and certificates that do not clearly match the item.
