A practical research sequence

1. Photograph before moving fragile material.
2. Lift from a strong edge with tongs.
3. Place in an inert stock card or mount.
4. Record any loose pieces or original enclosure.

Condition and value

Value depends on exact identity, condition, centering, gum or cancellation, faults, certification, demand, and a defensible comparison set. A famous design does not automatically make an individual example rare.
